19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's maiden title following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional title, gained dominance to force a decider.
The opponent saved four initial break points in a tight third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.
Fittingly, he clinched victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
